This module is designed for teachers to complete within their own workplace. The module includes research skills and analysis of texts, tasks and materials from the point of view of the language demands for a group of learners for whom English is an additional language. The module includes long-term and short-term planning and the development of lesson plans, materials and evaluation procedures. The module also requires the teachers to link theory with practice.
In this module you will develop an understanding of features relating to the phonology (sounds), morphology (words), syntax (sentences) and discourse systems of the English language. You will learn to recognise typical areas of difficulty for English language learners and you will apply this understanding to relevant teaching contexts. You will also develop an understanding of some social factors that have an impact on how English is used.
