Literacy and numeracy resources
Would you like to develop your reading, writing and maths skills?
Pathways Awarua has been developed by the Tertiary Education Commission to support adult and young adult learners to strengthen their literacy and numeracy skills in contexts that are relevant to New Zealanders. You can use this website to upskill in your own time on your own device, or using one of Wintec's on-site devices. It's totally free, and just takes a minute to register.
There are six pathways that focus on literacy and numeracy:
- Numeracy
- Reading
- Writing
- Listening
- Number facts
- Wordfit (vocabulary)
The numeracy and reading pathways have general, trade and service versions so that learners can choose contexts that suit their purpose.
To register for free and start upskilling, please go to pathwaysawarua.com and in the Learner box click on Register. If you need a hand to register or have any queries please contact Student Learning Services.
Note:
While you are at Wintec and studying programmes from Level 1 to 3 (sometimes 4) you may be asked to take part in a literacy and/or numeracy assessment. These assessments are required by the NZ Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and serve two purposes:
- To collect statistics on the levels of literacy and numeracy for people studying at these levels in New Zealand/Aotearoa.
- So that your course tutors and Student Learning Services staff here at Wintec can ensure that you receive academic support if you need it to meet the literacy and numeracy demands of your course.
