• Focus on Facilitators

For the last topic before you devote the remainder of your time to the assessments, we’ll shift our focus back to ourselves as teachers – or as is more appropriate in flexible learning terms: ‘facilitators’. What does teaching in the online environment mean for teachers?

    • Primary Objective:

      • To become aware of and discuss the 'effects' on the role of a teacher/facilitator within the online environment.

    • Key Content:

    • A) Facilitator's roles

      Credit: Jeremy Briggs, Wintec

The below resources outline different opinions on the various roles of eLearning Facilitators. Have a read and even do your own Google search (Try: "roles of eLearning facilitators") to see what people/trainers/bloggers/the literature have to say about them.

Think about how this differs from the role of a Face-to-Face classroom teacher (approx. 20mins).

You can respond to these in the Secondary Objectives activity below.

    • Scroll down just a little bit and view Figure 11-1 to see their version of the roles. You can also read the words if you wish whētero

    • Key Tasks:

    • 1) Fears and issues bank

Here is your opportunity to tell us your anonymous concerns about being an eLearning facilitator.

Use the link below to type in any fears you have, or issues you think exist, around moving your teaching into the online environment (approx. 20mins).

    • 2) Second Web Conference

Once it has been established, the time for our Second Web Conference will be emailed to you.

...See below for the recording after the session.

...Click the tick box ---> to mark the Second Web Conference as complete if you were able to attend.

    • Remember, everything below here is optional, but you need to complete at least three of these activities across the module to pass Assessment 1.

    • Cool Tool:

    • FlipGrid is a tool for enabling video interaction (i.e. stimuli and responses) between facilitators and learners, as well as between learners.

It makes it super easy to record videos that are automatically uploaded to the facilitator's account. It does require a free app on mobile devices, but it works through your computer browser if you have a webcam.

Click the FlipGrid logo to learn more about it then click the link above to contribute to the video discussion (or download the app and enter the code e5b4f6)

You can tick the completion box once you have done it.
    • Secondary Objectives:

    • a) Online teacher's role discussion

After reading the Key Content resources click on the link below to contribute to a discussion about online teachers' roles and the changes online teaching means to 'traditional' (classroom) teaching practice.
