    Orientation

Welcome to the course! I hope you're excited to be here.
Feeling comfortable and confident is also important so please use the activities and resources in this section to learn your way around this Moodle site.

    READ THIS ↓

    • Primary Objectives:

      • To orient yourself to the content and people within the module.
      • To know where important resources and activities are.
      • To understand the structure of this module enough to confidently engage with it.
    • Key Content:

    • A) Become familiar

Please take at least half an hour to look through the Welcome and Info & Assessments sections to familiarise yourself with the site. A good technique is to start from the top and read and click on everything as you come to it.

If you have ANY questions whatsoever please ask them, either in L'eCafe (in the Welcome section) for all to benefit from, or in an email to me personally (click on my photo in the Welcome section).

    • B) A couple of introductory videos

Then have a look at the following short (3-5 minute and not very taxing) videos to help stimulate your first thoughts about eLearning. Be ready to respond to them (in the Key Tasks below) by considering:

      • The reasons given for utilising utilising teaching/learning
      • Any reasons (mentioned or not) for NOT using eLearning.

    • Key Tasks:

    • 1) Orientation checklist

Below is a list of the support information provided for this module. As a tally for you (and me) click in the grey box to the right of each item once you have viewed it. Once all six boxes below are ticked this activity will be marked as complete.

    • - Download and read the Module Handbook

    • - Check out the News & Announcements Forum

    • - Check out the L'eCafe Forum

    • - Find the two places where the Key Elements of Learning are displayed

    • - Find and look through the 'A-A-A-G' resource

    • - Find the Assessment Details and Submission links and familiariase yourself with the assessments

    • 2) Live Web Conference

We will be holding a Synchronous Web Conference in the first week or early the second week of the module. A Doodle link has been created under the Welcome tab under the News and Announcement forum. Please enter your preferences and we will take the one with the most votes. This web conference should only take about 45 minutes and will be an introduction to the course and each other.

I will record the session and post the video DIRECTLY BELOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

After participating - or viewing the recording if you couldn't make it - be sure to click the tick box to the upper right of this text to show you have completed this task.

      • You may be asked to run an app or download a 'plug-in'. Please allow it.
      • Please ensure you have at least a microphone and speakers to participate (a webcam would be even better).

If you want to use your mobile device:

      • Search in the app store for 'ZOOM Cloud Meetings' and download the app.
      • Once open, touch 'Join a meeting' and enter the Meeting ID: ######

Note: We will have another one of these near the end of the module to check your understanding of the assessment tasks. Check the 'Focus on Facilitators' section for more information.

    • 3) Update your Moodle profile

Make sure your Moodle Profile is updated with a photo of yourself and any other relevant information.

To do so, click on your name in the far top right of the Moodle screen. Then click on the 'Edit profile' link near the left.

    • 4) Introduce yourself

Introduce yourself to each other by posting in the L'eCafe (in the Welcome section).

Include a sentence or two that describes:

      • Who you are and where you come from
      • Why you are taking this module
      • What your expectations/hopes are for this module
      • A brief statement about your current thoughts towards eLearning, including your response to the two videos above about the reasons for and for not using eLearning.

There's no word limit but you must reply to someone else's post to complete this activity.

    • Remember, everything below here is optional, but you need to complete at least three of these activities across the module to pass Assessment 1.
