• Video Recordings

    **UPDATES as of 21st April**

All live Zoom sessions need to be recorded and uploaded to Moodle

All teachers recording live Zoom sessions need to follow the Principles and Practices as outlined on the Staff Intranet Zoom page.

All teaching videos we make or record should be provided to students within Moodle using the Medial tool.

It is possible to reduce the file size of the videos before we upload them.

The resources below support you to do these two processes.

    • Medial

Medial is the Wintec approved tool for uploading recorded videos to Moodle. We are not to use YouTube for videos we record.

Medial lets students stream the video without downloading it to their device, AND the file doesn't slow down or clog up the Moodle server.

Before you upload the file, check the file size. It might take a while to upload depending on your connection. It is possible to shrink the video to a third of its size using other tools. Please see further staff support resources for how to do this.

We can also let students submit videos through the Medial 'Video submission' option in the Assignment activity.

    • These videos are made by Medial and include:

      • Adding a Medial video into a resource like a label
      • Creating a Medial video student  submission activity ("instructor Assignment")
      • How students submit Medial videos
      • How to grade a Medial submission
    • Video Editing

If your video is large, it is possible to shrink the file size so that it is easier to upload to Moodle.

See the following resources to to learn some possible methods.

    • Using the "export to video" feature within PowerPoint lets you:

      • join multiple video files together
      • add visual elements to these videos
      • shrink large videos to smaller sizes
      • Make a recorded slideshow smaller and easier to upload to Moodle.
    • Another option for shrinking videos is to use the built-in Video Editor within Windows 10 (sorry Mac users!)
