• Self-Study Listening

You have 60 hours of self-study listening as part of your programme. In this time you should review and revise your classwork, prepare for your assessments, and work on extending your listening. How, when, where, or who with is all up to you!

The following links are all helpful listening resources for you to choose from.

      • Choose the Listening Test and General Listening practice links when you are preparing for an assessment.
      • Choose social conversation when you want to understand ordinary conversations better.
      • To work on your NZ English try ESLNews and the other NZ links.
      • Towards the end of the programme you might like to use the Employment related listenings.
    • NZ based listening

    • We will use some of these videos in the Listening Moodle Forum.

You can use these for your self-study too. They give you a lot of information about apprenticeships, community work (see Just the Job Gold), and entrepreneurship.

You can select sub-titles/captions BUT the text is not always reliably accurate.

    • Excellent listening, reading and vocabulary practice.

    • General Listening Practice

Use these for regular 30 minute practice sessions 2 or 3 x a week (or more!).

    • Listening to social conversation

Click on the links and follow the instructions. Complete all pre- and post-listening tasks.

    • Test your listening

    • Read the instructions carefully and take the test. You will find out how good your listening skills are.

    • Listening for Employment

    • Try this listening from the British Council. Do the exercises on the website. Try to only listen x2.
