This module introduces students to the study of popular music as culture, as part of a range of activities, discourses, institutions, media and texts that create and are created by human subjects, collectively or otherwise, to construct, negotiate and contest meaning. To study popular music as culture is to examine not just "music" but the range of cultural discourses and media it intersects: audiences, fans, film, TV, the internet, media technologies, identity and use in everyday life.
