New Zealand Standard NZS 3604:2011 Timber framed buildings is the current version of the building standard you MUST become familiar with.

Information on NZ Standards in general (and other standards relevant to the building trade) is also provided in this toolbox under Building Code and Licence Resources. NZS 3604 is presented here because it is 'the Bible' of the New Zealand building industry.

Whenever you have questions working on a timber framed building consult this standard until you know 'by heart' how the standard applies to the work you are doing. However, you also need to stay up-to-date with any revisions made to the standard,

How to get a copy of 3604

  • Go to the Wintec Library home page and select the Catalogue under Resources: Wintec Library / Select Catalogue
  • You should now see the basic search database as shown below:

You should now see at least three entries. Choose the one that is the full version (not the one that says selected extracts)

Select the full version (not selected extracts) of the standard. Note: Hardcopy and CD Rom is only if you wish to purchase the standard for yourself.

This should take you to a pdf of the standard. Scroll down to find the contents page, you can select the heading you want, and it will jump to that section in the document.
