    Welcome to Invitational Education!

This is a copy of a course run for the old Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Education. It is used as an example of a fully online course with a more individual focus (rather than group interaction).

    Any questions? Ask Jeremy Briggs.

See below for a description of the course subject.

I'm sure you'll be pleased with the decision to learn about this approach to student centred teaching, based on the work of Dr. William Purkey (in association with Drs. Betty Siegel and  John Novak).

This Moodle site is THE main source of information and learning activities for this fully online module so please take some time to find your way around.
My advice is to "start at the top and click on everything".

This course is intended to provide you with:

    • An understanding and application of the appropriate principles and practices relating to invitational theory in your own teaching/learning context
    • An accountable theory of practice
    • An opportunity to apply the skills of critical/reflective thinking to your current practice with regard to the inviting and dis-inviting practices that may occur within your teaching/learning context

The information and links below are designed to inform you all about this whole module.

The section links across the top contain the key learning activitiesresources and assessments.

    • Module Booklet:

The first thing you'll want to do is read the file below. It contains all the important information about this module that you'll need to know to get started (and to make sure this is really the module you want to do!). It also includes all the assessment marking criteria and instructions.

Click on the link below to download and/or open the PDF file.

    • Forums:

You'll want to know about the module forums listed below.

The News Forum is what I use to keep all participants up-to-date with news and information. You're all subscribed to this so you'll be notified via email.

The Social Forum is a place where you can introduce yourself as well as discuss things that aren't necessarily part of, or required by, the module but that you want to "put out there". Feel free to use it to mention things that you'd like feedback on from your peers or the tutor.
Please don't use it to sell your car or rent out your house though wink
